RAS: This morning
we are thrilled to have with us an extraordinary artist,
all the way from Australia, Ken Duncan. Ken is the number
one panoramic photographer in the world and has donated
many hours of his talent to our ministry over the years.
Ken is once again sharing his talent, his time and skills
exclusively with our ministry. Ken has recently took a trip
to the Holy Land, where he captured the steps where Jesus
walked, and today is here to share with us what he’s
doing. Please join me in welcoming to the Crystal Cathedral,
Ken Duncan. Ken, God loves you, and so do I.
KD: Well thank
you. I love you guys very much and I love being here, so
thank you.
RAS: You’ve done wonderful things for our ministry,
you’ve done several different books and you’ve
recently been now to the Holy Land, is that right?
KD: Yes, but
I’ve been doing a book on where Jesus walked and it
was sort of quite an exciting adventure for me.
RAS: So what
was some of the most exciting parts for you in Israel, and
the Holy Land?
KD: Well, to
be at the Sea of Galilee and you know the fishermen are
still there, still doing it pretty similar to the times
of when Peter and the disciples used to fish there. So,
I actually hung out with the fishermen and sometimes we’d
actually cook fish just on the shore of the Sea of Galilee
on a little pile of sticks. So it was just, for me, when
you go to a place, it very much links you more really to
the story. And that’s what it did for me. Sitting
on tops of mountains where I know Jesus would have sat and
just talking to God, it was just a great adventure.
RAS: Well, you
have something special that you’ve brought with you,
I understand.
KD: Yes I do.
Just here, this is a gift for the ministry because I wanted
to share these wonderful cups we’ve put together of
some of the highlights of some of the spots that I found
when I was on the adventure. And they’re not just
your typical, you know, shots, they’re shots that
probably haven’t changed much and since the time of
Christ. So hopefully we can share the adventure with others.
RAS: So you’ve
put these on some mugs and some cups with some different
verses on them.
KD: Yeah, well
you guys helped us with the scriptures and I just love the
scriptures, because they’re so appropriate to the
actual shots, when you read them. So, you know, as you’re
drinking your coffee, it’ll just remind you of how
real the story of Jesus is.
RAS: This is
absolutely spectacular. Would you tell me what you did here?
What this is, what I’m looking at and..
KD: Well this
one..
RAS: ..explain
it to me.
KD: ..this one’s
up at Philippi Cesaria and its called Bayonous Waterfall.
Now, this is exactly like it would have been in the times
of Jesus. So Jesus would have walked..
RAS: Spectacular.
KD: ..past this
waterfall, and He may have stopped there, and He may have
even had a swim there. But He would have had to go past
this waterfall, so when you sit there, you just feel like
you’re really there and you know, and for me it’s
very important sometimes not to just to go and see places,
but to sit there and just hear the Lord, He’ll begin
to speak to you. That’s what I felt, anyhow.
RAS: And the
Bible verse is Revelation 7:17, it says, “The shepherd
will lead you to a fountain of living water.”
KD: Isn’t
that beautiful? You know? So..
RAS: What a way
to begin a day.
KD: It’s
a wonderful way, exactly.
RAS: And there’s
more, there’s four of them, aren’t there. What
is this one?
KD: Well this
one..
RAS: Tell me
about this.
KD: ..this one’s
like what the Garden of Gethsemane would have looked like.
These trees are olive trees and they’re over a thousand
years old. And this is the place where Jesus said to Peter,
who am I? And he said you are the Son of God. And he said
only God could have revealed that to you. And I love this
because it says “Abide in me and I in you. I am the
vine, and you are the branches.” You know, it’s
so true: when you abide in Jesus, your life’s an adventure.
RAS: Yeah, you
abide in Christ and you find the fulfillment that the branches
need, don’t you. Tell me about this one, Ken, that’s
so beautiful..
KD: Oh..
RAS: ..look at
that rainbow.
KD: Well look,
this is the place of temptations, where Jesus was tempted
by the enemy. And you know that particular day, I was getting
rained on, I was there for sunrise, my wife had rung up,
there were financial problems at home, and I’m going
Lord, you know, You told me to do this project and you know
things seem to be going wrong and all of a sudden I just
felt Him say son, stop worrying. I will look after that,
all you’ve got to do is do what I’ve called
you to do. And I said, okay Lord, I can no longer worry,
over to You. And then as soon as I got that mind set, all
of a sudden a double rainbow comes out right in front of
me, like a confirmation.
RAS: Not one,
but two!
KD: Two! You
can see where God’s always..
RAS: That’s
spectacular.
KD: ..more than
enough. And I just thought Lord You are so good. And you
know what, from that moment on, finances came in supernaturally
into the business to enable me to continue the journey,
so He’s a good God. So.. a..
RAS: Yes He is.
KD: ..very special
man.
RAS: And what’s
the Bible verse that we have with it, “God remembered
His holy promise and brought us out with joy.”
KD: Isn’t
that the truth, though?
RAS: Isn’t
that wonderful? There’s actually four cups in this
set, aren’t there?
KD: That’s
right. And this one says “He said to the seas, peace,
be still, and there was a great calm.” Now this is
the Mount of Beatitudes and this is the actual Sea of Galilee
in the background.
RAS: It looks
purple, it’s so beautiful.
KD: And.. you
know well you have all these beautiful flowers, at sunrise..
RAS: Yes..
KD: ..and when
I was there, the flowers, there was a big storm there, and
the flowers were dancing all over the place and I thought,
Lord, I’m not going to be able to photograph this.
You know, they’re moving too fast. And then all of
a sudden, He just stopped the wind. It just stopped like
that for one minute. I got the shot, and then the wind came
back, but He’s an awesome God. So that’s very
appropriate. “He said to the sea, peace be still,
and there was a great calm.” That’s the truth.
RAS: Wow. Well
God’s been a tremendous calm in your life, hasn’t
He?
KD: Look, He’s
just such an awesome God. He loves us so much. All of the
things in our lives; the little things to the big things,
He’s paid for.
RAS: Well we
want to thank you for your beautiful donation of your time,
of giving yourself to the gospel of Jesus Christ, going
to the Holy Land and giving us these fabulous panoramic
photographs and then putting them on these cups for us.
Thank you Ken, we appreciate you very much. If you would
like to get one of these beautiful cups, just write to me
at Robert Schuller, Garden Grove California, or call 1-800-9-POWER-9.
That’s 1-800-9-POWER-9 and we’ll send you one.
And so we thank you so much Ken, for your generosity and
your love.
KD: Well it’s
my appreciation because it was through you that I came to
know Jesus, so I can never give back enough. Thank you so
much. Love you guys.
RAS: Well Ken,
God loves you and so do we.
